Time tracking & budgets

Start a timer on any thread or log time after the fact, mark what's billable, approve what can be charged, and see your totals.

What it does

Threadwork has Clockify-style time tracking built into every thread. Start a timer while you work, or log time manually in minutes. Mark entries billable and approve the portion that can be charged to a client. The Time page rolls up your totals.

Where to find it

  • Per thread — the timer and Log time button are in the sidebar of a thread page (/dashboard/threads/<id>).
  • Your totals — the Time page at /dashboard/time.

Step by step

Start and stop a timer

  1. Open a thread and click Start timer in the sidebar.
  2. The timer runs against that thread (any other running timer of yours is stopped first).
  3. Click Stop timer to record the elapsed time.

Log time manually

  1. On a thread, click Log time.
  2. Enter the number of minutes, an optional note, and whether it's billable.
  3. Click Log time.

Review and approve time

  1. Open the Time page to see your recent entries and totals (Logged / Billable / Approved).
  2. Toggle Billable on an entry, or click Approve to mark it chargeable.

What each screen shows

  • Thread sidebar — a Start/Stop timer button and total time logged, with a recent-entries list.
  • Time page — a running-timer banner (if active), three summary cards, and a list of entries with billable/approve toggles and delete.

Tips

  • Only one timer runs at a time — starting a new one stops the old one automatically.
  • Set a budget for a project from the Budget button on its board (owners/admins). Choose hours and

a period (per week / per month / total); the Reports page then shows logged time against it, turning the bar red when you go over.

Troubleshooting

  • Timer won't stop? Stop it from the same thread it's running on, or check the banner on the Time page for which thread it's on.
