Invitations & Switching Teams

When someone invites you to their team, you choose whether to accept. You can belong to more than one team and switch between them whenever you like.

What it does

If a teammate invites you by email, that invitation waits for you inside Threadwork instead of automatically adding you to their team. You decide whether to accept (join the team) or decline. The person who invited you is told either way.

Because you can belong to several teams, accepting an invitation adds the new team to your account — it doesn't remove you from any team you're already in. A team switcher in the header lets you move between them.

Where to find it

  • Banner: when you have invitations waiting, a highlighted bar appears at the top of every dashboard page: "You have 1 pending invitation to join a team." Select Review invitations.
  • Invitations page — Navigation: the banner's Review invitations link, or go directly to the URL.
  • URL: /dashboard/invitations
  • Team switcher: top-left of the header, next to the Threadwork logo (only shown once you belong to more than one team).

Step by step

Accept an invitation

  1. Select Review invitations in the banner (or open /dashboard/invitations).
  2. Find the team in the list — each row shows the team name, who invited you, and the role you'll have.
  3. Select Accept.
  4. You're taken to that team's dashboard. The person who invited you receives an email and a notification confirming you joined.

Decline an invitation

  1. Open the Invitations page.
  2. Select Decline on the invitation you don't want.
  3. The invitation disappears from your list and the person who invited you is notified. You stay in your current team.

Switch between teams

  1. Select the team name at the top-left of the header.
  2. Choose the team you want from the dropdown. A tick marks the team you're currently viewing.
  3. The page reloads into the team you picked. Everything — workspaces, threads, reports — now shows that team's data.

Leave a team

  1. Switch to the team you want to leave so it's the active one.
  2. Open the team switcher and select Leave this team… (shown when you're not an owner of it).
  3. Confirm. You lose access to that team and are switched to one of your other teams. You can be invited back later.

If you're the team's only owner you can't leave — hand ownership to someone else (or delete the team) first.

Delete a team you own

  1. Switch to the team so it's active, open the team switcher, and select Delete this team… (shown when you own it).
  2. Confirm. This is only allowed for an empty team — no other members and no workspaces, threads or rooms — and never your only team. It permanently deletes the team and can't be undone.

This is handy for tidying up the personal team that's created for you if you only ever wanted to join someone else's.

What each screen shows

  • Pending-invites banner: a count of invitations waiting and a link to review them. It appears on every dashboard page until you've dealt with them.
  • Invitations page: one card listing each pending invitation. Each row has the team's name and icon, "Invited by …", a role badge (Admin, Member or Guest), and Decline / Accept buttons. If you have none, you'll see a friendly empty state.
  • Team switcher: the active team's name with a small up/down chevron. Opening it lists every team you belong to, with a tick beside the one you're viewing.

Tips and good to know

  • You must have verified your email before you can accept or decline. If your email isn't verified yet, the Invitations page will tell you to verify it first.
  • Invitations are matched to your email address, so you'll only see invitations sent to the address you signed in with.
  • Accepting doesn't make you leave anywhere — use the team switcher to move back to another team at any time.
  • If you signed up on your own first, you'll still have your own starter team. You can ignore it and work in a team you joined, switching with the header dropdown.
  • The role on each invitation (Admin, Member, Guest) is set by whoever invited you and decides what you can do in that team.

Troubleshooting

| Problem | What to try | | --- | --- | | I don't see an invitation I was promised | Make sure you're signed in with the exact email address it was sent to. Check that the inviter didn't cancel it. | | "Verify your email" message on the Invitations page | Verify your email from the link Threadwork sent you, then reload the page. | | "This invitation is no longer available" | It was already accepted, declined or cancelled. Ask the inviter to send a new one. | | I accepted but still see my old team | Use the team switcher (top-left of the header) to select the team you just joined. | | The team switcher isn't showing | It only appears once you belong to more than one team. Accept an invitation and it'll show up. |
